My name’s Jenny Connick. I founded Talentino! after my eldest son came to me looking for help with his career choice. Fortunately, as a former HR director, I’d helped to look after the roles of thousands of people worldwide. For Josh, I adapted some of the models I’d used with people in business and he identified a career that he loves. Within a year, Josh’s friends came knocking on my door - “Mrs. Connick?” they’d ask, “can you help me work out what I should be doing too?”
Career development has never been more important. Young people are under more pressure than ever before, in a crowded jobs market with high youth unemployment. UK Plc is facing a skills shortage - over half of UK businesses aren’t confident they’ll have enough skilled staff for their future needs. We urgently need to create a bridge, where there’s presently a gulf, between young people and business. This isn’t something anyone of us can be complacent about, but especially parents.
I believe the key to successful early career development for young people is working in tandem with parents, carers, teachers and people from the business community. Early career coaching is vital – after all young people make their first career decisions choosing GCSEs aged just 12. And young people have told us they want face to face coaching, rather than just online or telephone advice. For more information on what we do, please check the rest of our website.
