Well, how much has happened since we last chatted! The National Careers Strategy has had its first birthday, Careers Leaders have been appointed, more young people are getting the early career development they have a right to.
Talentino has been appointed as the strategic partner of the Careers and Enterprise Company for SEND which is brilliant! But as you know, our focus has predominantly been on young people with learning difficulties and those who are disadvantaged. We know from our impact research that systematic early career development that starts young and involves employers and families can bring young people in Special Schools to be career ready when they leave school BUT there are very few jobs or training opportunities for them to go onto. So many will repeat content at College, sometimes for many years. There are notable exceptions of course.
Campaign 2 is about AMPLYFYING the role of employers when they engage in Special schools so they actively explore how they can offer a small number of jobs and training scheme places like Supported Internships and even rarer, Supported Apprenticeships. Along with our visionary partner, The Greenwood Academy Trust, we are having conversations with global employers who have the passion to change things for the 10,000 school leavers from Special Schools every year.
